京からかみを簡単に言い表すと、版画の一種の様なもので、朴の木で手彫りした古くから伝わる伝統文様の版木が使われます。今回展示されるのは吉祥草文様です。吉祥草が咲くのは稀で吉事のときのみであり、お釈迦様が悟りを開かれたときに敷いていらしたとの言い伝えがあります。

京からかみ Kyo karakami, which has its origin in Tang Dynasty of China, is like a type of woodblock print. The printing block is magnolia wood hand-carved with traditional patterns passed down from the ancient times. The pattern on display is Kichijyosou (Reineckea)- The plant blooms on such a rare wonderful occasion that Buddha achieved enlightenment on it.
