真田紐は正確な伝来や起源などはよくわかっていませんが、名前の通り戦国武将の真田一族とのつながりのあることで有名な紐です。宮中で使用される組紐と違って庶民や武士が使うもので、使用用途は多岐にわたり、茶道具などの桐箱にかけるものから腰ひも・甲冑・刀剣の下げ緒・荷紐・帯締め・襷紐などが挙げられ、戦前までは作り手もとても多数だったと言われていますが、現在では数軒でしか制作されていません。今回は江南さんのご協力のもと、真田紐が織られる過程の見学・体験や、実際に甲冑や刀剣にどのように使われていたかを見学できます。

‘Sanada’ cord is famous for its association, as the name goes, with a samurai ‘Sanada’ family, though the precise origin is still an open question. Whereas Kumihimo (braid) has been often found with aristocracy, the rope has been used by samurai and commoners in such many ways as bandage of Paulownia box for tea ceremony tools, samurai armour, sword decoration, common ropes, and so on. There have been many craftspeople before WWII, but now a few remain. In this event, ‘Enami’ craftscompany will bring you back to Samurai-period, offering exhibition and experience of Sanadahimo.
