日本刺繍の歴史は長く、飛鳥時代にすでに刺繍で仏画が制作されていました。石川県には加賀繡、東京では江戸刺繍がみられますが、そのうちとくに京繍は平糸を基本に絹糸の光沢出しつつ繊細で柔らかな刺繍であるのが特徴で、友禅のお着物や帯の付加価値（＝友禅のあしらい）としての用いられることが主流です。

　Japan has a long history of sewing. In the time of Aska era (592-710) Buddhist illustration was achieved by this technique. The Kyoto-style is beautiful for its silky beauty with fineness and tenderness and is usually used for adding to the value of Yuzen-dyed kimono.

　今回は伝統工芸士の山下憲子先生にご指導いただき、京繍を体験していただきます。山下先生は金駒などの伝統的な技法を得意とされることに加え、アルファベットを用いるなど斬新な発想も備えられ、創造的なご作品をお作りになります。
Noriko Yamashita, a traditional craftswoman, will help you experience Kyonui, the Kyoto-style sewing. She is not only good at traditional techniques such as Kinkoma but also famous for creative works including alphabets.
